India plans to make new rules on Biocides

To revamp on the country’s regulation governance, India is planning to implement new rules governing biocides in paint – and possibly other industrial applications-with in the end of 2018.

India's Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB) experts have joined hands to draft the guidelines for the use and registration of biocides in paint. Biocide formulations in India have to be based on Technical Grade Pesticides (TGP)s that are registered with the CIB, the committee member revealed.

As per the new rule, Domestic suppliers will be favoured with fewer, or diluted, data requirements to encourage local manufacturing.

Paint applications containing registered actives may be exempted from CIB registration requirements altogether. This is provided they are produced by registered suppliers and make no biocidal label claims.
