EUDR Overview

The European Union Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR) is a major step to combat global deforestation and promote sustainable value chains across all sectors.

IT System Requirement

To implement the EUDR effectively, an EU-managed IT system will handle all transactions for covered products, both upstream and downstream, inside and outside the EU.

Projected System Load Challenges

Recent assessments indicate that higher-than-expected transaction volumes, numerous small package imports, and due diligence submissions may slow down or disrupt the IT system.

This could prevent economic operators from:

📝Registering as operators
📄Submitting Due Diligence Statements
🚚Providing information for customs purposes

Impact on Compliance and Trade

Potential system issues could hinder compliance with the EUDR and affect trade flows, impacting both EU and international stakeholders.

Proposed Solution – Postponement

To ensure operational readiness and reduce uncertainty, the European Commission is considering a 1-year postponement of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), moving its entry into application from 30 December 2025 to December 2026. Until the extension is officially approved, companies should remain prepared to start reporting from 30 December 2025.
