IMDS Release 15.3 Rolled Out on May 11, 2026
IMDS release 15.3 Key Functional & Check Changes Explained
Published: May 2026
The International Material Data System (IMDS) has officially rolled out IMDS Release 15.3 to Production on May 11, 2026.
This latest update introduces several important enhancements focused on:
- Process chemical analysis
- Tree navigation improvements
- Better MDS request management
- Administrative email notifications
- Simplified password policies
- Improved REACH validation clarity
Below is a detailed overview of all functional and check changes introduced in IMDS Release 15.3.
IMDS Release 15.3 – Functional Changes
1. New Analysis Options for “Chemical Presence Type”
IMDS Release 15.3 introduces a new analysis option for the “chemical presence type” of referenced Process Chemical substances in the Where-Used Analysis screen.
How the New Chemical Presence Type Search Works
When users keep the default selection (“any”), the system returns all MDSs where a non-blank chemical presence type has been selected for a matching Process Chemical substance.
Users can now filter results using one of the following chemical presence types:
- Intended Use
- Reaction Residue
- Impurity
When one of these options is selected, IMDS only returns MDSs containing at least one Process Chemical substance with the chosen chemical presence type that matches the specified portion.
Tree Search Dialog Enhanced
The same chemical presence type filters are now available within the Tree Search dialog inside an MDS ingredients screen.
- Any
- Intended Use
- Reaction Residue
- Impurity
Automatic Tree Search Execution
When users open an MDS from the Where-Used Analysis using these new criteria, IMDS automatically performs a tree search using the same filters and highlights the first matching Process Chemical reference.
2. Additional Options for “Expand Tree” Function
The “expand tree” functionality introduced in earlier IMDS releases has now been further enhanced in Release 15.3.
A new submenu allows users to expand only the selected node based on specific criteria rather than expanding the entire MDS structure.
New “Expand Selected Node” Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Expand all (Component, Semicomponents and Materials) | Fully expands the selected node/reference |
| Expand only Component and Semicomponents | Expands Components and Semicomponents while keeping Materials collapsed |
| Expand only Components | Expands only Component nodes while collapsing Semicomponents and Materials |
| Expand own MDSs | Expands only references to own Modules/MDSs while accepted or published references remain collapsed |
| Expand current substance group filter | Expands only nodes containing substances matching the selected filter |
GADSL Filter Enhancement
When the GADSL filter is selected, Materials containing at least one duty-to-declare or prohibited substance are automatically expanded.
All unrelated nodes and references remain collapsed, making substance analysis significantly easier.
3. MDS Request ID Now Visible in Inbox & Outbox
IMDS Release 15.3 adds a new search field for MDS Request ID in both:
- Own Requests
- Received Requests
The Request ID is also displayed directly in the search results.
The MDS Request ID is different from the assigned MDS ID.
This enhancement improves request traceability and simplifies request management workflows.
4. Weekly Emails for Unnoticed MDS Requests
To reduce the risk of missed MDS Requests, IMDS now automatically sends weekly summary emails to company administrators if no active users are subscribed to MDS Request notifications.
This applies to users with privileges to manage users.
When Weekly Emails Are Triggered
New MDS Requests
If no active user subscribes to “MDS Request received” notifications, administrators receive a weekly summary of all open requests received within the previous 7 days.
Due MDS Requests
If no active user subscribes to “Received MDS Request due” notifications, administrators receive a summary of requests due within the next 7 days.
Information Included in Weekly Emails
- Request Date
- MDS Type
- Requestor
- Part/Item Number
- Item-/Mat.-No.
- Material Number
- Name
- Deadline Date
If both notification conditions apply, IMDS sends a single consolidated email containing both new and due requests.
No email is sent if there are no open MDS Requests.
5. New Password Expiration Rules
IMDS Release 15.3 simplifies password management requirements.
Updated Password Policy
The following rules have been removed:
- Mandatory password changes every 90 days
- Restriction preventing reuse of previous six passwords
IMDS recommends using strong and lengthy passphrases instead of short, easy-to-guess passwords.
IMDS Release 15.3 – Check Changes
1. Copper Excluded from 7.2 (Ceramics / Glass) Check
Copper (CAS 7440-50-8) has now been excluded from the material composition validation for classification 7.2 (ceramics / glass).
This follows previous exclusions for silver and gold.
What Changes for Users?
Materials classified under 7.2 containing 80% or more copper will no longer trigger warning messages during validation checks.
Substance Group Renamed
The substance group:
- “Chk: Classification 1-4 w/o silver, gold”
has been renamed to:
- “Chk: Classification 1-4 w/o silver, gold, copper”
This update is also reflected in the IMDS FAQ corrections list.
2. Clearer REACH Regulatory Information Error Messages
IMDS Release 15.3 improves clarity around missing REACH regulatory information.
Previous Validation Message
Updated Validation Messages
- “REACH Material regulatory information missing”
- “REACH Component regulatory information missing”
This enhancement helps users quickly identify whether the issue exists at the material or component level.
