The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) has added several industrial chemicals to the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC) following completion of their mandatory five-year post-assessment review periods under Section 82 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019.
The updates, made on 16 October 2025, and 7 November 2025 and 11 November 2025, shift these chemicals from "assessment-certificate only" status to fully Inventory-listed substances.
These inclusions streamline regulatory pathways for introducers—simplifying import, manufacture, and downstream use, provided all conditions remain consistent with the original assessments.
All chemicals listed above now qualify for introduction under standard Inventory rules.
Importance of the Update
1. Transition from Certificate to Inventory Status
These chemicals now move out of the “assessment certificate only” category. Introducers may import or manufacture them without requiring ongoing assessment certificates.
2. Reduced Regulatory Burden
Inventory listing lowers administrative requirements and enables smoother supply chain and manufacturing operations—benefiting importers, manufacturers, and downstream users.
3. Compliance Requirements Still Apply
Even after Inventory inclusion, introducers must:
• Notify AICIS within 28 days if introduction conditions differ from the original assessment.
• Maintain compliance with any restrictions or assessed parameters.
4. Part of Broader 2025 AICIS Inventory Updates
AICIS has progressively updated the AIIC throughout 2025 as multiple chemicals complete their five-year review periods.
Implications for Industry
Industry stakeholders, importers, manufacturers, and compliance teams should:
• Update internal compliance dashboards and regulatory databases to reflect new Inventory status.
• Streamline procurement and product development under simplified Inventory-based obligations.
• Review all chemicals nearing their post-assessment milestones to anticipate upcoming shifts to Inventory listing.
• Monitor AICIS updates regularly for new inclusions and evolving regulatory obligations.
