China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has released a new batch of National GB Standards, setting updated safety and technical requirements across multiple industrial sectors. These standards—covering coatings, fire-protection systems, textile dust hazards, confined spaces, and industrial gas safety—will come into force through various dates in 2026.

The newly published GB standards highlight China’s ongoing modernization of workplace safety regulations, introducing stricter controls for hazardous operations and industrial equipment.

Newly Released GB Standards and Implementation Dates (2026)

Industry Impact

1. Coating & Spray-Painting Operations

The updates introduce stricter rules for coating processes, spray-painting booths, and drying rooms, addressing chemical hazards, fire risks, and worker exposure.

2. Fire-Protection & Electrical Safety

New technical requirements for flame detectors and fire-monitoring systems will impact equipment manufacturers, building-safety suppliers, and facility owners.

3. Confined Spaces & Industrial Gas Use

Industrial sites handling coal-gas or confined-space operations will need stronger process controls, hazard training, and updated compliance systems.

4. Textile Dust Explosion Prevention

The textile industry faces upgraded requirements aimed at reducing dust-related explosion risks—an area of increasing regulatory concern.

Compliance Recommendations for Companies

• Identify which new GB standards apply to your operations or supply chain.
• Update your safety management systems before deadlines starting May 2026.
• Assess and upgrade equipment such as spray booths, dryers, flame detectors, and gas-handling systems.
• Communicate regulatory impacts to suppliers and downstream partners.
• Continue monitoring SAMR updates as more GB revisions are expected.
