The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has initiated a public consultation regarding six proposals to identify new substances of very high concern (SVHC). This announcement was highlighted in the September 4, 2024, ECHA Weekly Newsletter.

Proposed Substances and Their Uses

The substances under consideration and their applications are as follows:

1. 6-[(C10-C13)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated)-2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl]hexanoic acid

Uses: Found in lubricants, greases, release products, and metalworking fluids.

2. O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate

Uses: Employed in lubricants and greases.

3. Octamethyltrisiloxane

Uses: Utilized in the manufacture and formulation of products, including cosmetics, personal and health care items, pharmaceuticals, washing and cleaning products, coatings, non-metal surface treatments, sealants, and adhesives.

4. Perfluamine

Uses: Applied in the manufacturing of electrical, electronic, and optical equipment, as well as in machinery and vehicles.

5. Reaction mass of triphenylthiophosphate and tertiary butylated phenyl derivatives

Note: This substance currently has no active registrations.

6. Tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite

Uses: Commonly found in polymers, adhesives, sealants, and coatings.

Comment Submission Deadline

Stakeholders are invited to submit their comments on these proposals by October 14, 2024. This consultation is an essential step in assessing the potential risks associated with these substances and determining their regulatory status within the European Union.
