The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) has published major updates to its mineral supply-chain reporting tools with the release of:
• Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) v2.1
• Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT) v1.3
These new versions, released simultaneously, introduce critical enhancements to help companies align with emerging global regulations and improve traceability in complex mineral supply chains, particularly for battery materials and conflict-affected sources.
EMRT v2.1 – What’s New?
The EMRT v2.1, designed for minerals like cobalt, lithium, graphite, nickel, and mica, includes several key updates:
• New notice: “Select Minerals/Metals in Scope”
• Enhanced Product List tab: Includes Requester Product Number and Name fields
• Updated tabs: Smelter List, Mine List, Smelter Reference List, and Standard Smelter List
• Improved traceability: Helps companies comply with the EU Battery Regulation and similar emerging requirements
RMI strongly recommends using EMRT v2.1 for the current reporting year. The next version (v2.2) is planned for Spring 2026.
AMRT v1.3 – Expanding Mineral Coverage
AMRT v1.3, which addresses minerals not covered by CMRT or EMRT, introduces:
• New Smelter Look-up tab: Featuring a standard smelter list for all AMRT minerals
• Declaration tab enhancements: Updated mineral input and scope notice
• Product List changes: Requester Product Number and Name fields
• Refreshed Smelter and Mine List tabs
This template supports reporting on non-traditional or less-regulated minerals and is especially relevant for companies with diversified mineral sourcing. The next version (v1.4) is expected in Fall 2026.
Why These Updates Matter
These updates reflect the RMI’s commitment to evolving mineral due diligence standards in response to:
• Regulatory alignment: Especially with EU regulations on batteries and raw materials
• Improved supply-chain traceability: With new product identification fields
• Facility standardisation: Avoiding confusion from unofficial or modified templates
• Broader mineral scope: Supporting comprehensive reporting across complex portfolios
Recommendations for Companies
Companies using these templates should:
• Adopt the latest versions (EMRT v2.1 / AMRT v1.3)
• Update internal systems and templates accordingly
• Communicate changes to suppliers and customers
• Review mineral portfolios to select the appropriate template
• Train internal teams and suppliers using RMI’s completion guides
• Avoid overburdening suppliers with mid-cycle survey changes unless necessary
If surveys were already issued using earlier versions, consider whether updates are critical or can wait until the next reporting cycle.
Looking Ahead
• EMRT v2.2: Expected in Spring 2026
• AMRT v1.4: Expected in Fall 2026
Future updates are likely to enhance data standardisation, include additional minerals, and better integrate with digital reporting systems like IPC-1755.
