In November 2020, US EPA released the Final Risk Evaluation findings of the substance Trichloroethylene (TCE) under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA). The risk evaluation aims to find out the unreasonable risk to health, environment exposed by the chemical substance under the conditions of use. EPA officially initiated the risk evaluation process of TCE in December 2016. After processing the several components like scope, assessments, characterization, and determination, EPA released the final Risk Evaluation findings.
The Agency found no unreasonable risk to the environment by TCE under any conditions of use where they found some unreasonable risk to the human health under the condition of use like cleaning care products, aerosol air fresheners, brake cleaners, Degreasers, Adhesive Removers, and paints & coatings. These findings will be finalized by the agency within two years after taking public comments about the final risk evaluation.
EPA will propose the TCE regulations under TSCA which include the restriction of the substance for the manufacturers, distributors, processors, and the use & disposal of the substance.
