Inventory of Existing Chemicals - Thailand Launched its first national Chemical inventory

Thailand publishes a new online inventory of existing chemicals in the country on 08 July 2020. The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) under the Ministry of Industry (MOI) of Thailand issued the Notification of the Department of Industrial Works Re: Inventory of Existing Chemicals in Thailand (No.1) B.E. 2563 (2020), dated 22 June 2020, announcing the first national chemical inventory of existing chemicals (DIW Chemical Inventory). This Inventory contains approximately 11500 existing industrial chemical lists that are manufactured, processed, or imported in Thailand.

The DIW insists that they are required to comply with regulatory obligations under the Notification of Ministry of Industry Re: List of Hazardous Substances B.E. 2556 (2013), which has been amended through the latest version [version 6 of B.E. 2563 (2020) (List of Hazardous Substances)].

The public can use the searches like Chemical name, Molecular formula, Hazardous type, Chemical groups, CAS number, Chemical code (only for substances registered between 2017 and 2020) to find information on the respective chemical. The current version includes chemicals that are on the list of dangerous substances (5.6v) as well as on the latest list of reports of dangerous chemicals (type 1-3) under the responsibility of the DIW. According to DIW, the main purpose of the inventory at this time remains unchanged, i.e., to be an assistive tool to the industry/stakeholders.

In Thailand, industrial hazardous chemicals are regulated under the framework of the Hazardous Substance Act (and the amendments) The people & government officials suggesting that the development of a national chemical inventory is an essential step needed in the country’s establishment of its new chemical law, which proposed to replace the country’s current Hazardous Substances Act.
