In May 2021, Eight Chemical Substances are submitted to the Stockholm Convention by the European Union for the evaluation of identification under POP regulation. There are more steps for a chemical substance which is declared as POP under Annex I, II, III, and IV of the convention starting from the draft proposal, assessment, Risk Profile, Risk Management Evaluation, Recommendation, Decision. These Eight substances are in the first stage of the process where the draft proposal was submitted to the Conventions.
POP Review Committee involved in the later stages of the process where 80% of the decision taken. The whole process will be completed within 2 years of the date of the draft proposal. Any amendments to the Annexes will be effective after one year of adoption of the proposal by the committee.
