The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) has updated the Inventory listings of 2,297 industrial chemicals to clarify the Specific Information Requirements (SIR) originally carried over from the former NICNAS scheme.

The changes, effective 25 July 2025, aim to improve transparency and assist introducers in meeting their compliance obligations—without introducing any new regulatory burden.

What Has Changed?

These updates apply to a subset of roughly 4,000 Inventory-listed chemicals with SIR obligations and include:

• Clearer descriptions of the type of information introducers must submit to AICIS.
• A downloadable XLSX file listing all affected chemicals and the updated SIR terms.
• An upcoming Inventory snapshot in August 2025, which will integrate the revised listings for easier access.

Purpose of the Update

What Businesses Should Do?

To remain compliant and benefit from the increased clarity, AICIS advises businesses to:

1. Download the XLSX list of updated chemicals and review entries relevant to your operations.
2. Check your current SIR obligations using the revised language and updated help guides.
3. Prepare for the updated Inventory release in August 2025 for simplified referencing.
4. Continue meeting all existing obligations, as no rules or data requirements have been changed.
