South Korea's National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) has released updated hazard assessments for 236 chemicals as part of its ongoing effort to improve chemical safety. The revisions, formalized through Notice No. 2025-5, focus on enhancing public health protection by providing updated toxicological classifications for various substances.
Key Updates in Hazard Assessments
• 178 Newly Assessed Chemicals: Hazard assessments have been added for 178 new substances, providing crucial data on their toxicological risks.
• 58 Substances Removed: Due to expired CBI protection periods or duplicate registrations, 58 chemicals have been removed from the database, promoting greater transparency.
Implementation & Future Plans
• The updated hazard assessments took effect immediately on February 18, 2025.
• NICS will continue refining its chemical management approach, with plans to address emerging risks from new chemicals.
