The obligation to submit notifications to ECHA’s SCIP database regarding substances of concern in products has been extended to cover companies supplying articles in the European Economic Area (EEA) inclusive of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and can submit notifications beginning 7th November 2022. This change was a result of the amendment to the Waste Framework Directive that has been incorporated into the EEA Agreement. This SCIP is EUs’ first public database that enables consumers to make more informed purchasing choices and helps waste operators to further develop the re-use of articles and recycling of materials.

For EU countries, the duty to submit SCIP notifications began in January 2021. The database now includes over 8.7 million searchable article notifications, from over 8 600 companies.
