The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) has added two industrial chemicals to the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory) after they completed the required five year period following the issue of their assessment certificates. The additions were published in December 2025 under section 82 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, which allows chemicals to transition from assessment certificate status to full Inventory listing once the post assessment period expires.

These changes simplify future introductions (import or manufacture) of the listed chemicals under standard Inventory rules, provided their use conditions remain consistent with the original assessment.

Chemical Added on 2 December 2025

On 2 December 2025, AICIS announced the addition of the following substance:

  • CAS Number: 173904 11 5
  • Chemical Name: 1,3 Cyclohexanedimethanamine, N¹,N³ bis(2 methylpropylidene)
  • Molecular Formula: C₁₆H₃₀N₂
  • Inventory Listing Date: 28 November 2025
  • Information Requirements: Businesses must notify AICIS within 28 days if introduction circumstances differ from those in the original assessment.

Chemical Added on 9 December 2025

On 9 December 2025, a second chemical was added to the Inventory after the five year post assessment period:

  • CAS Number: 900151 37 3
  • Chemical Name: 1,4 Benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with 1,2 ethanediol and α hydro ω hydroxypoly(oxy 1,4 butanediyl)
  • Molecular Formula: (C₈H₆O₄·(C₄H₈O)ₙH₂O·C₂H₆O₂)ₓ
  • Inventory Listing Date: 3 December 2025
  • Information Requirements: As with other listings, introducers must notify AICIS within 28 days if introduction conditions change.

What This Means for Importers and Manufacturers

Once a chemical moves from an assessment certificate only status to being listed on the Inventory after five years, businesses may import or manufacture the chemical under general Inventory rules, provided that the substance’s conditions of introduction—such as use, volume, and formulation—remain unchanged from the original assessment.

Importers and manufacturers are advised to:

  • Review and confirm that use conditions match the original assessment.
  • Notify AICIS within 28 days if there have been changes to how the chemical is introduced.
  • Keep internal compliance systems updated to reflect the Inventory status change.

These obligations help ensure ongoing compliance with Australia’s industrial chemical regulations.

AICIS Regulatory Context

The Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals maintains a database of substances authorised for introduction into Australia, along with their regulatory conditions under the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. Listing chemicals after five years of assessment certificate status supports streamlining regulatory processes while maintaining protections for human health and the environment.

AICIS regularly updates the Inventory with chemicals that complete their post assessment period, alongside other notices such as new assessment certificates and early listings.
