The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced a public consultation on updates to multiple parts of the GB 30000 Rules for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals series. Published on 23 December 2025, the revisions aim to align China’s chemical hazard standards with the latest UN GHS Revision 11.

Standards Targeted for Revision

The draft revisions cover key GB 30000 parts addressing: profiles:

  • GB 30000.19 2013 – Skin corrosion/irritation
  • GB 30000.202013 – Serious eye damage/eye irritation
  • GB 30000.212013 – Respiratory or skin sensitisation
  • GB 30000.222013 – Germ cell mutagenicity
  • GB 30000.272013 – Aspiration hazard
  • GB 30000.292013 – Hazardous to the ozone layer

Other parts, such as GB 30000.7 (Flammable liquids) and GB 30000.15 (Oxidizing solids), are expected to follow in future revisions.

Purpose of the Revisions

The revisions are intended to:

  • Harmonize hazard classification criteria across GB 30000 standards
  • Update labelling requirements and SDS content
  • Strengthen hazard communication for chemicals in China
  • Align national standards with international UN GHS Revision 11
Public Consultation Process

The public consultation period is from 24 December to 30 December 2025. Stakeholders can submit comments to the MIIT Department of Science and Technology using the official feedback form.

Chemical manufacturers, importers, exporters, and SDS providers are encouraged to review the drafts to evaluate compliance impacts ahead of final publication.

Once finalized, the updated GB 30000 standards may require:

  • Revising chemical classification and hazard labels
  • Updating safety data sheets (SDS)
