U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a Federal Register notice requesting an extension from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for its information collection on third-party testing of children’s products. The current approval expired on September 30, 2025.

Purpose of the Information Collection

The data collection ensures manufacturers, importers, and private labelers comply with the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) by:

• Conducting initial testing before market entry
• Performing periodic testing to maintain compliance
• Issuing Children’s Product Certificates (CPCs) confirming safety rule conformity

Products Covered

The requirements apply to various children’s products, including:

• Durable infant and toddler items (cribs, strollers)
• Electrically operated toys
• Products with button cell or coin batteries
• Clothing storage units (to reduce tip-over hazards)
• Products containing magnets

Estimated Burden and Costs

The CPSC estimates an annual burden of approximately 5.3 million hours and total costs of around $222.3 million for testing, certification, recordkeeping, and labelling compliance.
