1. GM rejects Recommendation IMDS-019

On 17th August 2020, GM updated their IMDS validation criteria:

● The material datasheet will get rejected while submitting the datasheet to GM using modules published under Recommendation IMDS-019 for electronic and electric components used in the production of vehicles.

● GM will not be rejected for service parts legacy vehicles at this time and the General motor motivates the supplier to submit the datasheet according to REC. Under special circumstances, suppliers will be required to submit “Supplier Declaration Form” for IMDS-Rec019”

● The “Supplier Declaration Form for IMDS-Rec019” is not an authorization for the change of a part or component.

● Any changes to parts or components must be authorized through the GM Engineering Work Order (EWO) process. No waiver will be approved if it creates a condition of non-compliance with legal requirements.

2. EU elimination of PFOA reflects in IMDS

The inclusion of the chemical group perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts, and PFOA precursor compounds into Annex I of the EU Regulation 2019/1021 (POP-Regulation) intends to eliminate the use of all PFOA related substances in the EU as of July 4, 2020. The POP Regulation is the EU transposition of the UN Stockholm Convention and has replaced the former restriction of PFOA under the Annex XVII of the REACH-Regulation.

The IMDS Steering Committee says that the IMDS reporting thresholds vary depending on the substance and/or the legal requirements and are not always at 0.1% w/w.

So it is necessary to check compliance of IMDS data because, in the case of PFOA, this legal threshold is unusually low at 25 ppb.

If necessary, get into contact with customers immediately and update IMDS data accordingly.
