During its June meeting, ECHA's Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) adopted a record number of opinions. These include nine opinions on Union authorization, five on active substance applications, and ten on European Commission requests.
Below are the following positive opinions on Union authorizations:
● Active chlorine released from chlorine for (product-type 2), (product-type 5)
● Calcium dihydroxide/calcium hydroxide/caustic lime/hydrated lime/slaked lime for (product-type 2) (product-type 3)
● Calcium oxide/lime/burnt lime/quicklime product-types 2 and 3
● Peracetic acid product-types 2 and 3,4
● Hydrogen peroxide product-types 2 and 4
● L-(+)-lactic acid for product-types 3 and 4
● L-(+)-lactic acid for product-types 2, 3 and 4
● L-(+)-lactic acid for product-types 2, 3 and 4
The committee opposes a Union authorization for hydrogen peroxide to be used for toilet bowl disinfection in professional settings such as hospitals (product-type 2).
One Union authorization opinion on chlorocresol has been postponed and will be adopted via a written procedure. The committee supports the approval of the active substance formic acid.
The European Commission, together with the EU Member States, will make the final decision on active substance approval and Union authorization of biocidal products..
The committee met on 8-9 and 14-16 June 2022. The opinions will be available on the BPC's web page soon. The next meeting will take place in September 2022.
