The European Commission published Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/1740, which amends Decision 2023/1586 and updates the list of harmonised standards under the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC).
These updates are critical for manufacturers aiming to maintain the presumption of conformity with EU safety and performance requirements.
Key Additions and Revisions
The new decision introduces several updated EN standards across key machinery categories:

Withdrawal of Outdated Standards
Older versions of many of these standards (e.g., EN 81-31:2010, EN 1846-2:2009+A1:2013) will be withdrawn. A transition period runs until 20 January 2027, during which manufacturers can adjust to the new standards without losing their conformity status.
Why This Matters?
✅ Modernised Safety Framework: Reflects the latest technological and safety advancements in machinery design and performance.
🔄 Regulatory Alignment: Keeps EU machinery rules aligned with global standardisation efforts (CEN and CENELEC).
⚙️ Industry Impact: Particularly relevant for manufacturers of:
• Lifts and hoists
• Firefighting and rescue vehicles
• Food processing machinery
• Coating and welding equipment
What Should Businesses Do?
• Audit compliance against the new EN standards
• Revise technical documentation and design specs
• Plan updates before the January 2027 deadline
• Engage with CEN/CENELEC to stay ahead of future amendments
