On 17th January 2022, four more substances were added to the REACH SVHC candidate list as they are hazardous to the environment and human health. Previously the SVHC list got updated on 8th July 2021 with eight substances added. Now the list got expanded to 223 substances from 219 substances.
In the future, the substance may be added to the Authorization List. Inclusion on that list means that the use of the substance is prohibited unless a company receives authorization to continue its use from the European Commission. Under the REACH Regulation, companies have legal obligations when their substance is included – either on its own, in mixtures, or articles – in the Candidate List.
We all know any supplier of articles containing a Candidate List substance above a concentration of 0.1 % (weight by weight) must give sufficient information to their customers and consumers to allow safe use. Importers and producers of articles must notify ECHA if their article contains a Candidate List substance within six months from the date it has been included in the list (17 January 2022).
Suppliers of substances on the Candidate List (supplied either on their own or in mixtures) must provide their customers with a safety data sheet. They also must notify ECHA under the Waste Framework Directive as SCIP submission, if their products contain substances of very high concern in a concentration above 0.1 % (weight by weight).
