The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided to classify perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) along with their salts and isomers under CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) Hazardous Substances.

These will reduce the usage and exposure to Humans of the PFOAs and PFOS to. The major entities possibly affected include PFOAs and PFOS manufacturers, processors, the downstream and by-product manufacturers of PFOAs and PFOS, and the Waste Management and Wastewater Management Facilities.

Any responsible person who knows the usage of the PFOAs and PFOS must report immediately to the corresponding authorities.

The RQ (Reportable Quantity) for these designations is one pound or more in 24 hours
