The Enforcement Forum of ECHA, responsible for harmonising the enforcement of EU chemicals legislation has agreed to focus its next project on how companies fulfil obligations for products, substances and compounds.

This decision was taken due to the high levels of non-compliance identified in imported products from the previous Forum projects and in the recent pilot project. The pilot project found that 23% of inspected products were non-compliant.

The How-To's

• Controlling imports at the entry points is an effective way to ensure that non-compliant products from entering the EU market.
• Strengthen the relationship between REACH investors and customs

The end goal is that by effectively managing the imports, it would contribute to the chemical sustainability goals of the EU. The Forum has decided to publish its future advice on the enforceability of new restriction proposals under REACH.
