Publication of Amendment Order

India's Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals (DCPC) took a significant step towards enhancing quality control in the chemical industry. On April 13, 2024, the Ortho Phosphoric Acid (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024 was officially published in the India Gazette.

Effective Date and Scope

Effective immediately, as of April 13, 2024, the Quality Control Order (QCO) for Ortho Phosphoric Acid is now enforceable. However, there is a 90-day exemption period for Ortho Phosphoric Acid used in fertilizer manufacturing after the publication of the order.

Exemptions and Compliance

Ortho Phosphoric Acid intended solely for export purposes is exempted from the QCO. To ensure compliance, the acid must meet the specifications outlined in IS 798: 2020 Orthophosphoric Acid — Specification and bear the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) Mark.

Enforcement and Penalties

The government has put stringent measures in place to enforce compliance with the Quality Control Order. Violations of the requirements will result in penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS Act), 2016. This move underscores India's commitment to maintaining quality standards in the chemical industry.
