Innovative Product Enhances Sustainability and Efficiency

The world’s number one producer in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings has unveiled Bonderite M CR 1405, a pioneering product designed to boost sustainability and efficiency in color coating processes. This new solution integrates passivation and pretreatment into a single RoHS-compliant step, setting a new standard in metal surface treatment.

Streamlined Process Reduces Environmental Impact

Traditionally, metal surface treatment involved separate lines for passivation and pretreatment, requiring additional steps such as cleaning to remove rust preventive (RP) oil before painting. Bonderite M CR 1405 simplifies this process by allowing coils to be directly used on the color coating line after a single rinse with hot water. This innovation eliminates the need for a separate cleaning stage, resulting in significant reductions in energy and water usage, as well as lower wastewater pollution due to the absence of high-temperature cleaning agents.

Product Features and Performance

Bonderite M CR 1405 utilizes advanced chromium III-based technology to offer high performance while meeting environmental regulations. Gerko Odink, Senior Manager PD Metals EU, highlighted that the product combines the benefits of both passivation and pretreatment, providing superior paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. It is compatible with both chromium-based and chromium-free primers and adheres to RoHS standards that restrict hexavalent chromium use in Europe. Testing has demonstrated its effectiveness with blank corrosion resistance exceeding 96 hours and salt spray resistance of 800 hours with chromium primers and 500 hours with chromium-free primers.

Commitment to Sustainable Innovation

The launch of Bonderite M CR 1405 underscores the world’s number one producer in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings' commitment to sustainability. Volker Mansfeld, Vice President Industry EIMEA, emphasized the company’s focus on developing safer, cleaner, and more efficient processes. "We are dedicated to rethinking design and processes with our customers to identify opportunities for sustainable innovation and reduce industry reliance on fossil fuels," Mansfeld stated.

Conclusion: A Leap Forward in Metal Coating Technology

The introduction of Bonderite M CR 1405 represents a significant advancement in metal coating technology, aligning with the company’s efforts to enhance industry standards and promote environmental responsibility.
