The International Material Data System (IMDS) will launch Release 14.4, introducing a new check for Material Data Sheets (MDS). This update will analyze MDSs for materials classified under the now-deactivated classifications 8.1 (Electronics) and 8.2 (Electrics).

What to Expect?

With this release, a warning message will be displayed if an MDS at any level contains materials with classifications 8.1 or 8.2. These classifications were deactivated on May 19, 2021, and creating or releasing materials under these classifications has not been possible since then.

Impact

This update is purely informational and does not require changes to the IMDS Advanced Interface (IMDS-AI) format. However, it highlights the presence of potentially outdated material information in your MDSs.

Recommendation

Users are advised to review their MDSs and remove references to materials with classifications 8.1 or 8.2.
